GameStop Black Friday Deals Preview - Our Fearless Forecast for 2014In reality, GameStop has yet to publish its Black Friday 2014 advertisements, though tech blogs, including those that center on deals, have been sharing their forecasts and predictions, speculating on what GameStop will have in store for shoppers on and around November 28. Likewise, we’ve got our own primer for GameStop’s deals, and here’s a list of what you can possibly look forward to once the retailer announces its specials for Black Friday 2014.

In 2013, the most sought-after items at GameStop were the Xbox One and PlayStation 4; while neither console sold at a discount, the fact that these consoles were available at GameStop was a deal in itself. After all, both Xbox One and PS4 were pretty hard to come by when they were freshly released. With the consoles now approaching their first birthday, we’re boldly predicting GameStop will offer discounts of at least $50.

As for “twists,” GameStop last year allowed buyers to get 30 percent more trade-in credit when swapping their older gaming hardware, thus resulting in big savings in lieu of an actual cash discount. This year, we believe GameStop may have something similar, if not the exact same thing, for those who want to trade in their old Xbox 360 or PS3 consoles. We also expect $10 savings or more on peripherals for buyers who sign up to a new subscription to Xbox Live.

Talking about the PS4, GameStop may also be allowing buyers to save via trade-in of older consoles, but since it’s already cheaper than the Xbox One (with Kinect) at $399, we don’t quite know whether we’ll be seeing the PS4 get a cash discount. But there should be twists, as there were last year – other retailers, such as Dell, are bundling in popular games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us Remastered with the PS4, thus resulting in effective savings of $60, which makes it possible for GameStop to offer something similar. Buyers may also be able to save by buying a “refurb” – currently, refurbished PS4 units cost $379, and GameStop is likely to offer some sort of discount on these units, possibly by about $30-50 or so.

GameStop is, as most of consumers know it, a retailer that specializes in pre-loved games, but we expect brand-new titles to get discounts as well. As sports games aren’t as popular as other types of video games, FIFA 15, Madden 15, and maybe even NBA 2K15 and WWE 2K15 may be getting their prices cut; for the former two titles, that may be to the tune of $15 to $20, for the latter two, discounts may be at around $10 to $15. Likewise, newly-released games like Destiny, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Shadow of Mordor could receive $10 to $15 discounts, same with the soon-to-be-released GTA 5 for PS4 and Xbox One.

Lastly, we predict GameStop will open at some locations at midnight of November 28, just like last year, when doors were open to allow midnight shoppers to take advantage of its deals. But if your store isn’t open by then, expect them to open their doors at 5 a.m. or so.
