Google is expected to announce a 32 GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet on Monday, October 29 along with the LG Nexus 4 and maybe a new version of the Android operating system.
However, it looks like the official pricing information and release date has just been leaked out. Tech site Engadget had spotted a price tag from Wal-Mart subsidiary Sam’s Club that shows the 32 GB Nexus 7 will sell for $249. That’s the same price point of the 16 GB version of the tablet; the 8 GB Nexus 7 has carried a $199 price tag since its July release. This 32 GB iteration should start shipping on October 29 as well.
The launch of the 32 GB Nexus 7 could mean that the 16 GB version will be phased out in due time.
There have been reports that the device had reached “end of life” status; this isn’t at all surprising, as it would make no sense to buy a 16 GB tablet for $249 when you can get twice as much internal memory for the same price.
Aside from the 32 GB edition of the Nexus 7, two more variants may be unveiled on the 29th. The first is a Nexus 7 that will come with 3G connectivity, and the other one will sell for $99 and come with a single-core processor underneath. It’s more likely, though, that we’ll be seeing the former and not the latter; the 3G Nexus 7 had reportedly passed through Taiwanese wireless certification, and the rumor regarding the $99 variant was published by DigiTimes, a “hit-and-miss” tech blog.
