If the rumors are to be believed, HTC may be taking a bit of a different tack compared to the apparent template that the vast majority of 1080p flagship handsets that are due to arrive in the first half of the year. However, if one recent report is correct, HTC might be looking to duplicate some elements of last year’s release strategy this year.
French website FrAndroid has picked up on a screenshot of some promotional materials from local retailer Phone House. This image shows off some of the core specifications of the M7, HTC’s rumored next flagship. Most importantly, the flyer includes a March 8 release date, hinting that at least some consumers in Europe will be able to pick up the handset in just a month’s time. It’s also priced at 650 euro in the leak.
However, there are a handful of discrepancies between the FrAndroid leak and some more recent rumors. First up is that it features a render of the M7 that has been thought to be a fake.
Second, the 13-megapixel camera specification is somewhat questionable in the face of reports that HTC may be looking at using so-called Ultrapixel technology that uses three layers of 4.3-megapixel camera sensors to capture images.
As such, it’s difficult to judge the veracity of the report. The retailer could have gotten some inside information on the launch date, price and specifications, or it could simply have built up the flyer based on the outstanding rumors on the phone.
