HTC One M9 Rumors Fire Up Again Ahead of MWC 2015

on

The HTC One M9 is slated to arrive on March 1 at the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – that’s less than two weeks from now, as HTC and other tech giants prepare to unveil all types of mobile devices, including flagship phones like the One M9. With the launch event fast approaching, rumors regarding the HTC One M9 have fired up again, after several days of the rumor trail going cold.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the HTC One M9 will be arriving at MWC 2015 – by that we mean getting announced, but not exactly getting released. Last year, HTC took an interesting approach in hopes of outfoxing Samsung and its Galaxy S5 – while Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014 in late February and released the device in mid-April, HTC’s One M8 was launched and released on the same day, March 25. And while we don’t know for sure when HTC plans to release the One M9, we’ve been hearing of a device called the “HTC Hima,” an internally-named and oft-sighted device that most believe is the M9, or at the very least a similar device to the M9.

And now that we’re edging back to the present, the reliable leak maven @upleaks took to Twitter early this month to say that it’s “confirmed” – the HTC Hima “will be going to the market with marketing name HTC One M9.” We trust @upleaks’ intel – while not as active as retired leakster Evan Blass, a.k.a. evleaks, the @upleaks Twitter account has been the source of many an accurate rumor since last year.

Still, it’s only now that we’ve got some corroborating evidence to back up that tweet from about two weeks back – TechTastic claims HTC is getting its website ready for the One M9’s launch and release, while the device’s name itself has been sighted repeatedly on the source code on HTC’s website.

TechTastic also happens to be a very reliable, not to mention well-connected, source of rumors, and the publication claims that it had sighted the HTC One M9 name numerous times while checking the HTC website out. In here, the name “HTC One M9” is actually dropped repeatedly, as opposed to an internal codename like Hima. And it isn’t even showing as a similar brand name like “HTC One (M9)” – it’s showing as HTC One M9, and not HTC One or HTC Two either. Rumors had pointed to those two latter names as possible model names for HTC’s new flagship, but it looks like HTC won’t be that minimalistic this time around.

Rumors suggest HTC will be using the “One Life” slogan for the One M9’s marketing push, and as far as other release details go, there have been a few whispers of HTC doing what it did last year and releasing the One M9 on the same day as its public arrival. The One M9’s specs are expected to include a 5.5-inch QHD display, a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 810 eight-core processor, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory with microSD, a 20-megapixel rear camera, a 4 Ultrapixel front camera, and Android 5.0.1 Lollipop with the Sense 7.0 UX on top. Features may again include HTC’s BoomSound speakers up front, though we’re not quite sure yet of how else HTC plans to backstop the One M9’s standout fundamentals with unique and/or standout features.
