Laptop Deals This Week – Lower Prices Now Available on Windows-Powered Laptop Computers

Windows 10 has arrived, and while it may be some time before the public is able to purchase Microsoft’s new operating system, you may be wondering why Microsoft decided to skip Windows 9 and go straight ahead to Windows 10. According to the company, it “wouldn’t be right” to call the new OS Windows 9, due to its being a pivotal product release – this explanation, for some, wasn’t quite satisfactory, with PC World calling the move as “plain weird.”

However, a Redditor with the user handle “cranbourne” claims that it was all about code, as developers had instructions to check for “Windows 9” back when Windows 95 and Windows 98 were released all those years ago.

Even if you consider that explanation to be a bit peculiar, the important thing is that Windows 10 has gotten a launch, and that it should be released sometime next year. Also, for those who felt alienated by Windows 8’s completely new look and feel, the Start Menu is back on Windows 10, which should definitely be a good thing. And while there obviously aren’t any laptops out there that ship with Windows 10 pre-installed (naturally), you can get ready for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 release by saving some money on a new laptop. Here are some of Amazon’s better laptop deals for the current week.

The HP 15-Series 15-F009Wm laptop is now selling for $268.89, or $131 less than the original price of $399.99, and this laptop happens to ship with Windows 8 out of the box – yes, that same Windows 8 that offended so many longtime Microsoft OS users. This is something to keep in mind, as most of the laptops we’ll be covering ship with either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. The aforementioned HP laptop config also features 4 GB RAM and 500 GB internal storage, making it a nice entry-level option for laptop buyers on a tighter budget.

Also from the same company, the HP 17-f010us sports a 17.3-inch display, 4 GB RAM, 750 GB storage, Windows 8.1, and a 2.4 GHz processor, and will cost you $524.95, or $25 or so less than the list price of $549.99.

You definitely won’t get much of a price cut from the Dell Inspiron configuration with 15.6-inch display, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB storage, and Windows 8.1 – it’s now selling for $247 instead of the usual $249.99. But you can get a huge one, and we do mean huge, on the 15.6-inch Asus X551MAV Notebook. Pricing was once at $1,299, but Amazon has it selling for more than 80 percent off, or only $260. Specs include 2.2 GHz Celeron processor from Intel, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB storage, and Windows 8 out of the box.

Buyers who don’t want to deal with laptops that ship with Windows 8 can check out the Lenovo Thinkpad E545 configuration with 15.6-inch display, 2.9 GHz A6-5350M processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB internal storage, and Windows 7 Professional. Pricing is now $381.99, a discount of close to $120 off the full price of $499.

And since we want to leave you with one heck of a discount option for your next laptop purchase, the HP ProBook UltraBook with 13.3-inch display, Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit, 4 GB RAM, and 128 GB SSD as key specs is selling for a mere $559.99, or more than five hundred dollars cheaper than its original price, which used to be $1,078.99.
