MacMall Back to School Specials Start Early, Retina MacBook Pro Config Sells at Big DiscountCompared with the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display hasn’t gotten too much press as of late, as it isn’t expected that the professional notebooks will be undergoing a late-model year makeover in 2014. Still, it can be argued that the MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn’t really need any jazzing up, at least not just yet, though with that being taken into account, it doesn’t seem too shocking that Apple’s Retina MacBook Pros have gotten their share of recent discounts.

One of those discounts is currently being offered by MacMall, as the retailer is offering several MacBook Pro configurations at lower prices as part of its Back to School Specials. If you’re interested in seeing how much you stand to save from these deals, join us as we take a look at those deals right now.

Yes, it does seem a bit peculiar for Apple to launch a Back to School sale in the first week or two of July, but we’re definitely not complaining – some of these MacMall discounts are quite tempting due to the size of the price cuts. And as promised, we shall start with the Retina MacBook Pro. The 15.4-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 768 GB flash storage, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 1 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is actually quite a premium configuration, but buyers can now purchase this setup for just $2,399.99, or 21 percent/$649 off the regular price of $3,049.

A non-Retina config with 13.3-inch display, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 750 GB internal storage, among other basic specs, is selling for $1,229.99, a significant $269 discount off the list price of $1,499.

As this is a Back to School sale, MacMall is naturally concentrating on productivity devices that students could take advantage of for their studies, though the first MacBook Pro with Retina Display we mentioned can also be used as a gaming device. Those looking for something more attuned towards productivity can opt for the 21.5-inch iMac config with Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz, 8 GB RAM, and 1 TB hard drive. Pricing is now a very manageable $999.99, or $299 off the regular price of $1,299.

If you want a higher-end desktop, then the Mac Pro with 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 12 GB RAM, and 256 GB flash storage, might be worth checking out if you’re okay with paying a whopping $2,979.99, or a mere $19 off full pricing.

We’re down to our final deal for the recap, and if you want “One more thing” to consider, you might want a new Apple tablet ahead of the upcoming fall refresh while it’s still considered a present-generation device. By this we’re talking about the iPad mini with Retina Display, or “iPad mini 2” as many call it. MacMall is offering a 16 GB Wi-Fi only edition in space gray for only $379.99, and while that’s a mere $19 off full retail, this marks one of the few times you may see the Retina iPad mini on discount while we remain several months away from the projected iPad refresh this fall.
