Microsoft Xbox 720 Rumors: New Details on Upcoming Xbox Leak Out

Microsoft Xbox 720 Rumors: New Details on Upcoming Xbox Leak OutA new rumor courtesy of tech site VGLeaks has revealed some additional information on Microsoft’s next-generation video game console, the device alternately, yet unofficially known as Xbox 720, Durango or Next Xbox.

VGLeaks said in its report that the Xbox 720, as most refer to it, will have a processor with two modules with four x64 cores each and will be clocked at 1.6 GHz. The graphics solution, or GPU, may be based on D3D11 x 800 MHz architecture, and the console is expected to feature 8 GB DDR3 RAM.

According to the source, “With Durango, a familiar instruction set architecture and high performance silicon mean developers can focus effort on content and features, not micro-optimization. The trend towards more parallel power continues in this hardware; so, an effective strategy for multi-core computing is more important than ever.”

Other possible specifications of the Xbox 720 include 50 GB Blu-ray disc support and a 500 GB hard disk drive for data storage. The Xbox 720 is expected to be announced a month and a half ahead of E3 2013, at a special event to be held late in April. This will give Sony a two-month edge over Microsoft in terms of launch dates, although both PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 are expected to be released in time for the holiday shopping season.

Some of the PS4’s specs confirmed recently are an eight-core AMD Jaguar processor, a 1.84 teraflop AMD GPU and 8 GB GDDR5 RAM.
