Newegg’s '20 Days of Techmas' Specials Usher in Christmas Deal Season - Gadget Insiders

Newegg’s ’20 Days of Techmas’ Specials Usher in Christmas Deal Season

We might as well face it – for the most part, Thanksgiving deal season is over. The deals you saw on Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer in place, and few retailers have Cyber Week, an extension of Cyber Monday that, in most cases, simply isn’t as interesting or as exciting as the days before it. Newegg is one of those retailers that didn’t offer any Cyber Week deals, but the good thing is that today, it launched a new series of specials for tech shoppers. Whimsically called “20 Days of Techmas,” Newegg’s Christmas deals offer more big discounts for those who missed out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Let’s check out some of those deals.

Just as you’d expect from Newegg, a lot of the retailer’s “Techmas” specials can be filed under peripherals, components, and/or accessories. And some of Newegg’s deals come with a twist. For example, the Tamron SP 24-70 millimeter f/2.8 lens for Canon cameras is selling at full price ($1,299),but you can save $100 by mailing in an instant rebate card.

You may even encounter items such as a Canon EF 24-105 millimeter lens that’s selling at full-fat pricing ($1,149), with no discount, and not even a rebate card you can mail in for a discount. Then again, other deals, such as the 59 percent discount off the price of an Intel 730 Series 240 GB SSD, are more straightforward; instead of paying $269.99, you’ll only have to pay $109.99 if you buy this solid-state drive today.

Some of Newegg’s Techmas deals for today are on actual machines or devices, such as the LG 49LB550 HDTV. This 1080p, 60 Hz HDTV was included in the retailer’s Encore Tuesday deals (post-Cyber Monday), and it’s still selling for $399.99, or 43 percent off the original $699.99 price tag. You can also save 31 percent off the price of a Lenovo Miix 2 Ultrabook, which is configured with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, and 128 GB SSD. Pricing on this 11.6-inch Ultrabook is now $569.99, or 31 percent off the original price of $829.99.

That discount, however, pales in comparison to the discount on the HP Elitebook 840 G1 Ultrabook, which comes with a 14-inch display and is configured with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, and 180 GB SSD. The SSD space may be a bit low for a machine that’s “built for business,” but you can still get it for $599.99 instead of the usual price of $,199.99, or 50 percent off.

Newegg’s gaming laptop deals for Techmas, at least for the first day, appear to be few and far in between. These premium machines are typically available at full price, with most laptop discounts being on entry-level or midrange products. However, the MSI GT Series GT72 Dominator config with 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive space, and 17.3-inch display is now available for 5 percent off – that’s $1,799.99 instead of $1,899.99. It’s not much of a discount, but a deal is a deal in any case.

And if you’re a gamer in the market for a nice midrange gaming desktop PC, the CyberpowerPC config with Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive, and Windows 8.1 64-Bit costs $629.99 (reg. price $829.99), or 24 percent off full retail.
