What we do know now is that Sony will be holding a special PlayStation 4-related event on February 20, an event announced a few days ago. This event will reportedly have Sony making important revelations on the future of the PlayStation series. The Wall Street Journal reported on this PS4 event, claiming that apart from holding the event on February 20, Sony will also be releasing the next-generation console sometime in 2013.
Be that as it may, console gamers have less than three weeks remaining before what could be a big reveal from Sony.
February 20 does indeed sound way too soon for Sony to launch the PS4, meaning unveil it to the public and confirm it as an official device, but if Sony doesn’t reveal any actual device on the 20th, chances are it might go for E3 2013 as the launching pad of the PS4. It could be there as well where Sony announces details on pricing and the actual release date.
According to The Wall Street Journal, its sources “familiar with the matter” said that Sony is hoping to release the PS4 right before the 2013 holiday season, and have decided at the last minute to retain an optical drive for the new console.
Additionally, WSJ claims that Sony will be following the lead of Nintendo by lavishing more focus on social networking and multiplayer gaming. How Sony plans to do this is unclear, but all this PS4-related news promises for an exciting 2013 as far as the console gaming industry is concerned.
