Retina iPad Mini, iPhone 5S Might Be Out by Q2 2013, Says Rumor

By Brian Fulcher | 01/08/2013

Retina iPad Mini, iPhone 5S Might Be Out by Q2 2013, Says RumorChinese-language publication Commercial Times compiled a list of Apple-related rumors for the new year, and while the site’s reputation may not be up there with AppleInsider, 9to5Mac or other sites, the article had nonetheless done well in collating the latest tidbits related to Apple’s consumer electronics products.

Starting things off, Apple’s next iPhone may be known as the iPhone 5S, which follows Apple’s naming conventions by appending an “S” at the end of the most recent model name prior to the new one. This usually suggests an incremental update, but rumors from other sources suggest otherwise; the iPhone 5S may be Apple’s first quad-core smartphone, and it may also come with a better camera and maybe even versions with multiple screen sizes and colors.

Release date is predicted by the Commercial Times to fall sometime in the second quarter of 2013, or any time between April and June. Others, such as Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, have more conservative forecasts for the iPhone 5S’ launch, and are predicting that it should be ready by September.

The iPad mini, on the other hand, may benefit from Retina Display technology, thus addressing one of the most pressing concerns buyers had with the 7.9-inch tablet – its “standard” 1024 x 768 display resolution.

Now this may jack up the price of the second-generation iPad mini, effectively removing it from the “budget” tablet class, but Retina Display will be quite a welcome addition if it features in the next mini tablet.
