It’s almost good as confirmed, and it can definitely be assumed at this point that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will arrive at the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, getting launched at Samsung’s next Unpacked press event. And the Galaxy S6 rumors keep on firing up, same with unsubstantiated sightings of the next-generation flagship.
To give you an idea of the Galaxy S6’s importance, we should remind you that it is the follow-up to Samsung’s ill-fated Galaxy S5, a device whose being “evolutionary” served as its kiss of death. That said, the Galaxy S5 didn’t sell poorly by most standards, but for Samsung’s lofty standards, the phone was arguably a big flop, and its sales, or lack thereof, were a bane to the tech giant’s market share and financials. That’s why the Galaxy S6 is known internally as “Project Zero” – it’s a rethink, a reboot, and hopefully the revolutionary Galaxy S flagship Samsung needs to take on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Having gotten that backdrop out of the way and gone back to the present, we’ve now gotten wind of a new Samsung Galaxy S6 sighting from Galaxy Club. The tech blog had spotted user manuals for two Galaxy S6 variants on Samsung’s Finnish and Swedish websites – these manuals seem to be placeholders, but the model numbers that have been associated with the Galaxy S6 and the curved display-sporting Galaxy S6 Edge are in there. Not surprisingly, the manuals have since been removed, but screenshots have preserved things for posterity, showing the SM-G920X (Galaxy S6) and SM-G925X (Galaxy S6 Edge) user manuals ahead of the devices’ arrival.
Again, we should remind you that the Galaxy S6 manuals sighted on the Swedish and Finnish Samsung sites are placeholders, but the sightings are a clear sign that the Galaxy S6 is coming very soon, meaning both the device’s launch and release dates. Separate from Galaxy Club’s leaks, there have been separate reports detailing the devices’ specifications and features, as well as design elements. These reports corroborate older ones that suggest the Galaxy S6 will be made out of more premium materials, with a change in design lines from the samey design language used on previous Galaxy flagships. Aside from a metal frame and other metal elements, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge may also make use of glass on the back portion.
According to most Samsung Galaxy S6 rumored specifications, we could be looking at a device that’s so much better on a fundamental level than the Galaxy S5. These specs include a QHD display of unknown size (probably 5.3 to 5.5 inches), an Exynos eight-core processor built on 64-bit architecture, 3 GB or 4 GB RAM, a 20-megapixel rear camera, and a larger battery. But since you can’t have a successful Samsung flagship without some standout features, you’ll be glad to know the Galaxy S6 may have them in spades. It’s long been reported that the device may come with optical image stabilization for the rear camera, while newer reports point to a new mobile payment feature that may compete with Apple Pay.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to get released about two to three weeks earlier than usual, which could mean a release date in late March or early April.
