Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Leak Out Big-Time as MWC 2015 Nears

We’ve been hearing so much about the Samsung Galaxy S6’s specifications ahead of its unveiling, and with the phone’s likely arrival taking place about five to six weeks from now at MWC 2015, it would appear that all those specs have been leaked, along with information about the device’s features.

Before we take you to the leak, we should probably bring you up to speed on how the Galaxy S6 rumor train has chugged since last year. Given the sheer disappointing nature of the Galaxy S5 in the market and with critics, the first Galaxy S6 rumors emerged earlier than what we may have expected. Specs such as QHD display resolution and a 20-megapixel rear camera were mooted, while a completely new design philosophy was sort-of teased when we heard Samsung calls the Galaxy S6 “Project Zero” behind closed doors. After all, the Galaxy S5 became stale rather quickly, so it would stand to reason that Samsung would want to start from square one with the S5’s follow-up.

Just to clarify, this batch of Galaxy S6 spec leaks comes from separate sources, but both of them are quite reputable in the fields of business and tech journalism respectively. First, a Bloomberg report said this week that Samsung will eschew the Snapdragon 810 processor originally rumored for the S6, and would use one of its “homebrewed” Exynos chips instead. Qualcomm had previously scotched rumors of internal issues with the Snapdragon 810, but as Samsung had supposedly tested a new Snapdragon 810 iteration and come away unsatisfied, it looks like those rumors may have had at least a grain of truth to them. Bloomberg did cite an analyst, who believes Samsung dropped the Snapdragon 810 because it wants to have the Galaxy S6 ready for a March release date.

BGR also had its own dirt on the Galaxy S6 in a report of its own, leaking out the device’s spec sheet and citing a “trusted source” for its information. BGR is quite reliable when it comes to its (often) short and sweet tech reports, so we do trust the site’s intel, even if we’re willing to take things with a grain of salt as usual. That said, the Galaxy S6 will reportedly come with a 5.1-inch QHD display, a 64-bit, eight-core processor, 32/64/128 GB internal memory configurations, a 20-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 2,550 mAh battery, and a metal/glass design. Features will supposedly include the Samsung Pay mobile payment service, Optical Image Stabilization, and wireless charging. Except for the better-than-expected display, these specs mostly match up with previous Galaxy S6 rumors claiming Full HD (1080p) display resolution.

Last, but definitely not the least, a third report emerged, this time sharing details on the Samsung Galaxy S6’s design, or design-related features to be more precise. Italian tech blog WebTrek said in a new report that the Galaxy S6 will not be water-resistant, which puts it in a similar boat as the Galaxy Note 4, but a different one from the dust- and water-resistant Galaxy S5. Though this is just speculation, we think this may be a sign Samsung will be releasing a ruggedized Galaxy S6 Active, possibly a few months after the standard S6 hits stores.
