Verizon Droid Turbo Pricing Slashed By $150 at Best Buy Ahead of Christmas

on

The fact that it’s a phone that shares Verizon and Motorola branding, thereby making it a Verizon exclusive, sort of makes the Droid Turbo an underdog of sorts in the flagship phone space. But that doesn’t mean it’s a pushover in terms of fundamentals and special features; in fact, it’s one of the better phones on paper, and a cut above many heralded flagships we saw arrive in the first half of 2014. Now, you can get the Droid Turbo for less, as Best Buy announced it is putting Big Red’s 2014 flagship device on sale, offering discounts of up to $150 off.

With those Christmas 2014 deals heating up, the Droid Turbo is now selling for $100 off for existing Verizon customers, and as an incentive for those planning to switch carriers, $150 off for new customers. This is an exclusive Best Buy deal, with the special Ballistic Blue flavor in particular selling at $100 or $150 off, but like many other deals, there’s a twist.

That’s right – we refer to deals that don’t come with actual cash discounts as “deals with a twist,” and the twist here is that Best Buy is offering the discount in form of gift cards – again, that’s $100 for those already on Verizon, and $150 for those switching over to Big Red. However, the good thing is that the deal applies to conventional two-year Verizon contracts and Verizon Edge plans alike; Edge plans are similar to T-Mobile’s “Uncarrier” plans, as these require users to pay down the cost of their phone over several months, usually 24 months.

A further look at the tiny print underneath also tells us how long the deal will be available – it runs from December 7 through December 13, 2014, though you’ll want to ignore the “carriers, coverage, and products may vary by store” disclaimer, as the Droid Turbo is a Verizon exclusive.

Considering the above mentioned twist, we’d still recommend this deal if you’re looking for a way to save some money on your Christmas shopping, and do a lot of shopping at Best Buy. The $100 or $150 off will not be applied directly to the cost of the Droid Turbo, but you can still use that credit against future Best Buy purchases, which is always a good thing if you’re a regular Best Buy customer.

The Verizon Droid Turbo was released this fall and is manufactured by Motorola, and compared to its actual flagship, the Moto X (2014), the Droid Turbo is more impressive in terms of its basics. The device comes with a 5.2-inch, 2560 x 1440 QHD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor mated to 3 GB RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat (Android 5.0 Lollipop to roll out soon), a powerful 21-megapixel rear camera, and a giant 3,900 mAh battery. The phone is offered with 32 GB internal storage. As for the Droid Turbo’s most distinctive special feature, the device supports the Motorola Turbo Charger accessory, which provides an extra eight hours battery life in just 15 minutes of charging. It also comes with a durable Kevlar back plate, a longtime hallmark of the Motorola/Verizon Droid line.
