In a move that might seem all too familiar to its long-term customers, Verizon has once again announced a price hike for its older unlimited plans. This marks the second increase in just six months, leaving subscribers grappling with the changing landscape of mobile plan costs.
The Details of the Price Increase
Effective March 1, 2024, Verizon will implement a $4 per month increase for each line on its 5G Get More, 5G Play More, 5G Do More, and 5G Start unlimited plans. These plans were originally introduced back in 2022 and have since been a part of the carrier’s extensive portfolio.
A Verizon spokesperson, in a statement to CNET, confirmed these changes, noting that the hike will take effect starting the next billing cycle for customers on these select older Unlimited mobile plans.

A Pattern of Incremental Hikes
It’s noteworthy that this isn’t the first time Verizon has raised the costs of its legacy plans. Last August, the telecom giant increased the prices of its Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Above Unlimited, and 5G Start Unlimited plans by $3 a month for each line. This trend seems to be a strategic push to encourage customers to shift to Verizon’s newer offerings.
Introducing the myPlan Unlimited Data Plans
In what appears to be a calculated move to streamline its services, the company launched the new myPlan unlimited data plans in May last year. These plans, namely Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Welcome, offer a range of perks. Customers can choose to add services like the Disney Bundle, Apple One, Netflix & Max (with ads), or a Walmart+ membership for an additional $10 per month.
The Comapny Spokesperson’s Take
The spokesperson from Verizon highlighted the benefits of switching to the myPlan options. They emphasized the ease with which subscribers can move to these plans, leveraging the network options that best suit their needs.
Moreover, the new plans offer exclusive savings on entertainment, shopping, and experiences that are relevant to the users, including access to Disney Plus, Apple One, Netflix, Max, Walmart, and many more.
Verizon: The Shifting Landscape of Mobile Plans
As Verizon continues to evolve its services and pricing structures, it’s clear that the telecom industry is in a constant state of flux. For customers, this means staying informed and adapting to these changes, especially when it involves the financial aspect of their mobile plans.
While some may view these price hikes as a push towards more modern and feature-rich offerings, others might see it as an added burden to their monthly expenses. The key for Verizon and its customers is to find a balance that satisfies both the need for advanced services and the desire for affordable mobile plans.
